Table Retreat 2017

It is time for the annual Table Retreat and this year we are headed to Stoney Creek Ranch the weekend of March 10-12th! Tucked away in New Ulm, Texas, just a short hour and 20 minute drive, this beautiful retreat center is the perfect spot for our Young Adults to get away from the noise of the city and enjoy the simpler things of life: stars at night, bonfires with marshmallows, canoeing and paddle boarding on the lake, walking and hiking in the woods, not to mention the ropes course, blob, zipline, fields…what is not to like about this place?

So, is your interest piqued? If so, you are probably curious when we will have time to do all of these relaxing and fun things. The nature of this retreat is spiritual and social. Thus, the weekend will include 3 sessions by our speaker, Will Browning, and then the rest of the time is free time. To get a better sense of what the weekend will look like, check out our agenda:

The Speaker

If you have looked through the agenda, you now know that our speaker will be teaching us three different sessions. So who is this Will Browning? I can say with great confidence he is a pretty incredible guy (Our very own Joshua Smith helped Will plant Journey Church in SC)! Born in Barnwell, SC, Will currently serves as the Lead Pastor at Journey Church, a multisite church in the Charleston, SC area.  While studying Human Resource Management at Georgia Southern University (B.B.A., 1995) Will became a Christian.  He continued his studies at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div., 2005) and completed his doctorate at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (D.Min., 2015). In October of 1999, Will married the love of his life, Tarah.  Will & Tarah have three kids: Piper, Ethan (both adopted from the Ukraine), and Jedidiah.  Will is an avid South Carolina Gamecock Fan, coach to church planters, developing writer, novice triathlete, curious reader, and lifelong learner.  For more about Will, click here.

Maybe one of the most well know stories told in the first century was Jesus’ parable often referred to as the Parable of the Prodigal Son.  The rich depth of this parable reveals the heart of God the Father, his willingness to transform all who come to him, and the barriers that often stand in our way, blockading a full relationship with him. Will Browning will unpack this familiar text, shedding new light on how God desperately wants us to come to him with all of our desires so that he can transform and fulfill them while transforming us in the process.

The cost of this retreat is $135.00 and includes 4 meals, snacks, outdoor activities, and rooming (sheets, pillows, blankets, towels are provided). If cost is an issue, please pay what you can or email Catie (csmith@fpchouston.org) to hear about scholarship options– we don’t want cost to be the reason you don’t come!
